The winner will be selected through an online voting campaign, which is happening now and ends September 18. VCU Film graduate Mairin Hart has made a video for the Sigur Ros song "Ég Anda" and entered it into the competition, and we're pleased to have the opportunity to bring you that video now.

DAILY FIX: Magick Margaritasville

Here's a truly bizarre short film for you all to puzzle over. Put together by John Sebastian Vitale & Richard Perkins, two VA visual artists that we've featured in our print edition in the past, this video is certainly interesting, though it's also a bit difficult to understand.

Seasons With Brian And Julia is an independently produced documentary by local filmmaker Robert Griffith, which acts both as an intimate portrait of the lives of one farming family in rural Virginia and as an education in what goes into the act of responsibly and sustainably creating the food that we all eat every day.

The influence of French director Chris Marker resonates throughout cinema. His passing made me pause today, and I wanted to share the full version of La Jette in the hopes that maybe a few more people could appreciate his genius and understand why it bothered me to see him go.

RVA TV is proud to present the exclusive premiere of "Reprise," the newest video by Charlottesville, VA's The Fire Tapes. Directed by RVA TV alumnus William Pence, the video mixes what looks to be a Depression-era cartoon demonstration of the way your body processes soundwaves into information that is decoded by your brain, and strange graphics that appear to depict sea life swarming through people's bodies and other off-kilter images.

MOVIE REVIEW: The Dark Knight Rises

the_dark_knight_rises_v3_by_agustin09-d32g5jg.jpg

I left the theatre less than an hour ago and, despite being way too old to put on a cape(towel) and run around kicking and punching things the way I did as a kid after some superhero movie or another, I did get those butterflies. You know those butterflies.

MOVIE REVIEW: Get the Gringo

Get The Gringo (2012, dir. Adrian Grunberg)
Rating: 5 cans of PBR.

Maybe I should have given this one the whole six-pack. I had a blast with Get the Gringo, and I strongly recommend it to anyone who needs an obnoxious action film in their life. It’s 2012, and such movies are hard to find these days, so I was hoping that the man who once portrayed Mad Max wouldn’t let me down.

James Wayland's Top Vampire Books and Movies

I’ve frequently dropped Top 5 lists on my RVA peeps, but this is more like a Top 6 or a pair of Top 3 lists. You may have seen a post or two referencing my novel, Trailer Park Trash & Vampires, which I’m extremely proud of. I like to think of it as the anti-Twilight, as it ditches sweetheart vampires and sappy romance in favor of bloodthirsty beasts born of nightmare.

DAILY FIX: Little Black Rain Clouds Wonderland Show Promo

198272_428822290471817_973228886_n.jpg

It seems like a safe bet that everyone reading this website right now has been handed more than their fair share of show flyers. And most of the time, they get looked at for five seconds, crumpled up, and shoved into a pocket, to be forgotten about until laundry day rolls around (by which time the show has usually already happened). But wouldn't it catch your interest if, instead of just another piece of paper, a band handed you a horror film? Local electronic groups Little Black Rain Clouds and Gutter Gloss have basically done just that in promotion for their upcoming gig this Friday at Wonderland, and it certainly caught my attention!
