I promised myself that this week I would not write a lame intro about the weather, because that's what I've been falling back on, week after week. But then I checked the weather and saw that the temperature this weekend was finally going to fall on an a nice moderate 70-75 degrees, a vast improvement over the hot-and-cold days we've been having for the past few weeks. So, here it is, another lame intro about the weather.

Holly smokes! And, I do mean smokes, of all kinds. Forget about all the destruction this date in history brings, let alone what seems to always happen this week in history. Let’s celebrate life and sure fire incredible music made for a lion.

Here's an exciting opportunity for teenagers of all ages--as well as for those of you who might not be a teenager now, but were at one time. The Vans Warped Tour's 2013 edition is known as the Best Day Ever, and if you love punk, emo, hardcore, metal, skateboarding, and other extreme sports and music under a sizzling hot sun, then this is the perfect opportunity for you to relive your adolescence (or, alternately, live it for the first time) on the grounds of Merriweather Post Pavilion.

The Richmond Reproductive Freedom Project (RRFP) will be holding a fundraising flea market on the 300 block of S. Pine St this Saturday, April 20th from 9 AM to 4 PM. Vendors will be selling a wide variety of items, ranging from handmade jewelry, clothes and baked goods to used records, household items, and books.

Established in 2012, Fan Guitar And Ukulele is a great little music shop located on Main St just West of VCU. Operated by John Gonzalez De Solar and his wife Genie, this family music store with a homey vibe has come up with a great way to introduce itself to RVA Magazine readers--by giving away a ukulele!

What's the coolest thing about going to shows in the springtime? Not only do we have a band called that, but we have some pretty righteous amounts of pollen. More people are making the scene as it's getting warmer, and allergy sufferers are popping a few Zyrtec and persevering. We have so many awesome things coming up this month, including this weekend's Record Store Day, which is also Earth Day,

Ladies and gentlemen, are you ready for a funky good time? See-I, a long-running reggae band from Washington DC, will be bringing an amazing reggae/funk experience to The Canal Club this Saturday night.

Unfortunate though it may be, if I had a nickel for every time I could describe a punk or hardcore band as possessing a distinct approach, I'd barely have enough for a packet of Ramen. This isn't to say that distinction renders a band wholly unique (nothing exists in a vacuum after all) or that output marked by easy comparison to other artists' work is an inherently bad thing (plenty of amazing bands sounded like some really great amalgam of one or two other things), but the number of bands in any of punk's associated sub-genres that can't be described by easy comparison to some other act becomes increasingly scant as the years go on.

The lineup of the fourth annual GWAR-B-Q has hit the internet, and it's looking like the best one yet for this outstanding summertime event combining metal, barbecue, hot sun, and tons of blood and guts! Our mighty metal alien overlords of GWAR spare no expense to bring us an amazing show every summer by the manmade shores of lovely Hadad's Lake, and if you've had a great time at editions of past years, this year's edition will positively make your head explode!

Brazilian DJ Hugo Castellan, aka Darth & Vader, has been taking the electronic music world by storm over the last few years with his electro-house/dubstep hybrid sound, most famously on his track "Return Of the Jedi." Coming from a rock n roll background, Darth & Vader brings a heavy, headbanging sensibility to his productions, and he'll be cranking the bass and lowering the boom on RVA when he performs this Thursday at Kingdom as part of the inaugural Laserface party, presented by BADASS Raves, the Party Liberation Front, and RVA Magazine.
