This March the University of Richmond Museums opened a much anticipated exhibit of Andy Warhol photographs. The Joel and Lila Harnett Museum of Art at the University of Richmond recently acquired 153 photographs taken by Warhol between 1970 and 1987. The sizeable acquisition was a gift from the Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts to commemorate the foundation’s 20th anniversary.
It actually goes silent for a few moments when she begins to play. People turn to pay attention to Liza Kate, her gentle voice and guitar winning out over the clinking of bottles and barroom conversation. The whole place is captivated, and it is lovely to see, especially considering that this is one of her first shows in many months. Luckily, Liza Kate is back in action, with a new full-length coming out on the North Carolina based record label Holidays for Quince, and plans for touring. In a stunning hostile takeover, indie mag RVA has acquired local weekly Style on April 1st, 2009.
RVA, a monthly, free, color magazine, has apparently been eying Style for several years. RVA Magazine's senior designer, publisher, and international baller R. Anthony Harris, had the following to say about the purchase:
"Last month, we bought an island in the south pacific. It's fucking tight, we've got waterslides, dolphins and shit.
The Richmond Illustrators Club is starting to organize the 3rd Annual Juried Show, and they think you should enter!
The show will be held at Ghostprint Gallery, located in downtown Richmond, opening June 5th.
