
It's that magical time of year when all the VCU students who can't hack it in Richmond for the summer go home to their parents house, until the dorms re-open or their leases start in August. We jest--but seriously, it is kind of nice to be able to walk around the VCU area without being mobbed by oblivious students on cell phones.

Richmond (and Fredericksburg, and Brooklyn)'s own Highness released their debut album, Hold, this week, and for a limited time, it's available for free download at PureVolume.com. In light of each member's formidable musical history, it's easy to let their estimable pedigree become the measure by which the group is judged. However, the group prove on Hold that they are a force to be reckoned with in their own right.

Surely you've heard the rumors going around. No doubt you've wondered--is it really true? Can there really be a convention dedicated to adult entertainment occurring right here within our very own river city? Well, wonder no more, because we're here to confirm that the RVA Adult Expo will indeed be taking place only two weeks from now, on Saturday, June 1. Some of the best quality punk rock with a smidgen of indie will be on display on Grace Street tonight. New Jersey’s Titus Andronicus will shower us with their sharp as a knife sound, which is sure to pack the room.

Calling all RVA hip hop heads! It's been a while since we've done a giveaway for a local hip hop show, but we're making up for it in a big way with this one. Coming off the recent release of his twelfth mixtape, It's The World, this past December, Young Jeezy is bringing his thug motivation to The National next Friday, May 24.

With a slew of national tour dates recently announced, local Virginia band Eternal Summers is riding high atop their current wave of success. Now they’re looking to fans for help in producing their third studio album.

The new Daft Punk album, Random Access Memories, began streaming late last night on iTunes in anticipation to it’s May 17th release date. Following the release of the album’s lead single, "Get Lucky," last month, the hype for their new fourth studio album has reached a critical mass.

Small brewers will join beer enthusiasts around the country May 13-19 to celebrate the 8th annual American Craft Beer Week, hosted by the American Brewers Association. Richmond, like years past, is participating with a slew of local events.

There are so many things going on this weekend, but you may want to find yourself wandering to Bogart's in the Fan on Cary Street on Saturday, 5/18. The Sounds of RVA Showcase @ Bogart's begins its first installment this week, and we couldn't be more stoked.
