RIP Jeff Hanneman Of Slayer

Sad news for the world of metal today--Billboard reports that Slayer co-founder and lead guitarist Jeff Hanneman has passed away. Hanneman, who was 49, had been in failing health recently, and had not performed with the group live since contracting necrotizing fascitis (most likely from a spider bite) in 2011.

Tokyo String Quartet to Enlighten VCU on Final World Tour

The legendary Tokyo String Quartet is on its final tour after 43 prestigious seasons and over a hundred concerts worldwide each season. One of the quartet’s last U.S. stops will be here in Richmond at Virginia Commonwealth University’s W.E. Singleton Center for the Performing Arts on Saturday May 4 at 8 PM, in which they will perform pieces by historic composers, Beethoven, Bartók, and Mendelssohn.

For a band whose music unfolds as gradually and ponderously as Barn Owl's, their sonic evolution has occurred at a relatively rapid clip. From the start, they proved themselves one of the better bands who took after the sinister, vaguely spaghetti western-ish sturm und twang dirge that Earth brought into the world with Hex.
