We are proud to announce the upcoming Virginia Indie Film Festival presented by the VA Film Office, Virginia Production Alliance, RVA Magazine and RVA TV! Its this weekend at the Bryd Theatre.

Produced by DIGICO Shoot | Post | Design (DIGICO), a creative video and motion design firm based in Harrisonburg Virginia, and Jeff Tocci, “Beardo the Movie” was filmed on location in Alaska during the 2009 competition. “Beardo the Movie” talks to first-time and veteran contestants about facial hair in society, the WBMC competition and its aftermath. One-on-one interviews get behind the beards and reveal motivations, passions, dreams and the stigma of living in the modern world with beards and moustaches. Ryan Berry, DP and producer, sits down with RVA TV…
Ryan, where did this love of beards come from and how did it culminate into launching a full scale documentary?
The idea came to us from the film's director Jeff Tocci. Jeff had participated in a facial hair competition while attending JMU, with a little research on the topic he stumbled upon the WBMC (World Beard and Mustache Championship) and the bearded idea began to grow (not unlike a beard). When he came to us with the idea we were immediately on board. A few months later we were off to Alaska to seek out the best beard in the world.

Will you be hosting a Q & A session at the festival?
Yes. Directly following the screening we'll be taking your best beard questions.
Any future productions down the line?
We've got serval ideas in the hopper, nothing specific to talk about yet. We are always very open to ideas and suggestions, if you've got one drop us a line (goDIGICO.com).
How important do you value local festivals like this one?
Not only are local festivals like this a lot of fun, they are an invaluable way for indie film makers to get their films out to the public. It's great to get feedback from a real audience and see how people react to your creation. Also, its a fantastic way to meet up with other folks in the industry and hang out with like-minded movie nerds.
