We've been telling you about Real Talk for a while now. They're a Richmond hardcore supergroup, featuring current or former members of Brainworms, The Catalyst, Operation Latte Thunder and Forensics, getting back to their roots and playing some fast, angry hardcore. Now, for the first time, we're in a position to give you advance warning about one of their shows. So hey, what are you doing next Monday? I know some plans you should make:
WHAT: Real Talk At Strange Matter
WHO: Real Talk, Partial People, Cop City Chill Pillars
WHERE: Strange Matter (929 W. Grace St.)
WHEN: Monday, March 14, 10 PM
ADMISSION: $5
Joining Real Talk on this bill will be Florida bands Partial People and Cop City Chill Pillars, both of whom feature members of Chronic Youth (who have pretty much no web presence but have rocked Richmond on multiple prior occasions). Both Partial People and Cop City Chill Pillars sound quite a bit different from Chronic Youth, though, moving from noisy hardcore into borderline surf-style sounds, but still with plenty of lo-fi weirdness and surprising structural elements to keep things interesting. In fact, some of you will notice a whiff of the "mysterious guy" hanging around this whole extended family of bands--there's no denying that the Concerned Relatives blog draws easy comparisons to similar efforts by Total Abuse or the Cult Maternal family of bands. The advantage is that there's plenty of free music on Concerned Relatives, so you can listen to Partial People and Cop City Chill Pillars in order to prepare for the show. It's pretty fun stuff, and one would imagine that it'll be even more fun live. Ultimately, though, regardless of what you think of the touring bands, Real Talk will be worth the price of admission all by themselves. See for yourself at the Bandcamp page for their demo--now with song titles and lyrics! These ain't no mysterious guys. They're just here to shred. See you in the pit!
