I've known Lloyd for a long time now from skating in VA Beach. He always had good steez and dope tricks and rolled with the ill crew VA Fleezers. I moved to RIC but kept in touch and he would hit me up whenever he was in town. Everytime I saw him he would talk about a music project he was working on and before I knew it I was at the album release party watching the dudes kill it on stage. Here's a few words from Llloyd about Rose & Vines.
First off, congrats on the release the album! Let the people know where the name Rose & Vines originated from.
LV: FUCK YES. Thanks man. The name came up one night last summer when I was on a crazy ONE all night. I realized Landen and my last name went perfect. I’m Lloyd Vines, he's Landen Rose, so “Rose & Vines” was too perfect, for the album title and our band. To me it meant, like, rising vines, risen vines... You get it though.
Where are you guys from?
LV: We are both from Virginia Beach, VA. It’s crazy, ‘cause we lived in the same neighborhood and went to the same high school, but never knew each other.

How did this musical collaboration get started?
LV: It was probably around August 09. I was tryin’ to start recording and all that. I was leaving with my homie Sned (Tyler Snedeker) to go to Vista Cali to skate/visit Pat Burke. I had one song I recorded. Landen lives in LA, so I was hoping I could get up with him and record n’ shit while I was out there, but was nervous about asking. He’d been doing music for years and I figured he wouldn't take me serious. When I got back from Cali, he sent me a buncha stuff. We went back and forth through emails and skype exchanging ideas. I wrote and recorded on his stuff. Then he was like, “Okay, I fuck with it... let’s do it.”
What style would you describe your music as?
LV: Our style of music? It’s kinda hard to say. We came up with this: Bowie Biggie Connor and Chris. Landen listens to mad shit. I listen to mad shit, but its different. His big influences are King Crimson, Wu Tang, and Mike Patton. And me--Saves The Day, David Bowie, New Order, Black Dub... It’s hard to just pick a few, but these people did what they wanted, and you can hear it. I’d have to say we wanted to blend everything we've grown up listening to, and make it something of our own. Tons of acts attempt to blend rock with hip hop, but I feel like it always sounds the same you know? Basically we wanted to show that you can make whatever you want if you have the REAL influence to back it up.

What were some of the main inspirations for this project?
LV: “Stimulation of the mind or emotions to a high level of feeling or activity.” Inspiration from everything, all the time. We are both into a very wide base of music, film, art and skateboarding, and what we are into individually is just as varied. Everything is an inspiration and nothing is an inspiration at the same time. We like what we like, but what we make is all of those channels leading to one result.
I know you spent some time out in LA. What were you doing out there?
LV: LA IS AWESOME. I went out there to record Rose & Vines. It was so sick, ‘cause just being out there, you feel at home. Everyone’s doing shit all the time. Skating, making music, making art, just everything. The weed is off the Richter! We recorded the album in like four days, which was great, ‘cause I got to really experience LA. I stayed for about a month n’ a half. Pat came up a bunch... partied at the shake junt house... my friend Gloria lives out there in Echo Park, so I kicked with her a bunch... It was tight.

Are you guys going to get a tour together to promote the album?
LV: YOU KNOW WE GOTTA GET THE TOUR POPPIN. We are getting everything together now for it. You know, gotta do the East Coast colleges, all that. Then spread out everywhere.
Any final words/shout outs?
LV: Skate videos have the best soundtracks. B Woods is tight as fuck. Even If Ya Not Hot, it’s ‘bout to fuck shit up. Shout outs: VA fleezers, my mommma, family, homies... Thanks to everyone or anyone who believes in this shit. It’s EIYNH. VIRGINIA BULLS!

Cop on ITUNES
