YACHT, Bobby Birdman and Everybody Yay
Sunday April 24 at The National

For such a great show, this evening was sadly underattended. Fewer than fifty people came out: along with a small group of YACHT and Bobby Birdman fans, there were a handful of staff, some friends and family of the opening band, Everybody Yay, and several curious Richmonders looking for a cheap night out on Easter Sunday.

Those who saw Everybody Yay got a taste of what the future holds--psychedelic electronic noise with loose song structures. Following the local openers was soulful vocalist Bobby Birdman, who sang over live drums as well as loops triggered via guitar and MIDI keyboard.

Headlining that night's event was YACHT, which consists of Jona Bechtolt and Claire L. Evans, along with their touring band - Katy Davidson, Bobby Birdman, and Jeffrey Jerusalem. Despite the lack of a large crowd, YACHT emitted the most magical energy I've ever experienced at any venue in Richmond. Everyone dropped their guards and danced, taking full advantage of the extra space. It was exactly what we all needed.
