Rob Michael Hugel, New York filmmaker and brother of noted RVA filmmaker Johnny Hugel, has been working for a while on a web series entitled I Hate Being Single. He's produced five 5-minute episodes thus far, and is currently soliciting donations through Kickstarter for funding to finish up the two remaining episodes in season one of the series. The funding period finishes up on Friday, and since Rob has made his goal, the series is guaranteed to be produced. At this point, though, any extra donations will only serve to make the whole thing even better, and there are still some awesome prizes you can get for donations of specific amounts, so if this seems like a cool series to you (and though we've only seen the trailer thus far, it certainly does to us) then now's the time to get in on it.
Here's Rob Michael Hugel's description of the series:
The show follows Rob, who is a lonely twenty something who was dumped and doesn't want to join the single life in Brooklyn. He's pretty clueless when it comes to dating and he doesn't know where he belongs. Throughout the series Rob goes on weird dates, tries to reconnect with elementary school crushes, befriends his banker, gets stuck at a board game party, and eventually joins an underground cult of single guys.
People say the show reminds them of a mix between Flight of the Concords and Curb Your Enthusiasm. That's cool with me! I'm really pleased with the tone of the show. The tone is very subtle and dry. Some of the dialogue is loosely scripted and improvised. I owe a lot of the look and feel to the Director, DP and composer for the early epsiodes: Dan Opsal, Giga Shane, and Jake Zavracky. Jake creates the songs based on things I've asked him for. He is a musical genius and his music defines that tone of the show.
Sounds pretty rad, right? Well, what are you waiting for?
And after the jump, check out the extended video trailer for season one of the series!
