Here's an interesting event that's happening in support of a great cause: the So RVA Fest is a benefit for Special Olympics VA, and looks like it's going to be a totally off-the-hook party to boot! If you like VA hip hop, and you want to get in on what's probably going to be the hottest hip hop show of the brand new season, then you've got to be at the National this Saturday! The music they've got on tap is only the beginning, but that's pretty amazing in and of itself. Noah O & Charged Up Entertainment top the bill with a full set of great tunes. You can expect to hear last year's smash hit single "I Got It" as well as plenty of tunes from Noah's latest mixtape, Thuglas Wilder For President. Also in the building: Black Liquid, no doubt featuring members of his posse the New Juice Crew. This hard-working MC is everywhere on the Richmond hip hop scene, and the So RVA Fest is no exception. Checking out what Black Liq has in store will be worth the price of admission all on its own. With Bravo & The Big League and S.I.C. rounding out the bill and DJ Bobby Beats providing the music, you can expect amazing live performances from beginning to end.
And that's far from all this evening will have to offer. Things start out early, with a pregame throwdown from 7-9 PM featuring food & drinks, cornhole and other games, and a hip hop dance party to get you warmed up for the evening's live performances. RVAPong will be on hand to present a beer pong tournament featuring cash prizes (hit them up on facebook for entry), and the musical portion of the early evening will feature plenty more than just a random DJ spinning records. Indeed, Carter Baldwin will be on the turntables, with guest MC S.I.C. rocking the mic, and your hosts for the evening--David Shervin, Alex Waller, and Jeff Caesar--joined by special birthday hosts Katie McCracken & Marianne Tucker. Live performances kick off around 9 PM, and there'll be turntable scratch battles and freestyle rap battles going on during intermissions.
Best of all, there's a whole bunch of crazy baller shit that will go down if this event sells out. A randomly selected fan will win $500 cash, five more fans will have a shot at $100 each, and at the height of the festivities, the So RVA organizers will make it rain by dropping $1000 in cash over the balcony onto the dance floor. How often do you hear about stuff like that going down here in RVA? So RVA Fest is taking things to another level entirely--but only if the place sells out. But hey, with everything they've got on tap for attendees, from live performances to great activities and plenty of cold beverages, why wouldn't you show up? Top it all off with the fact that advance tickets are available for as little as $10 (and all-access VIP perks are available for only $50), and there's just no excuse for any hip hop fans in this town not to make it out. Seriously, people will be talking about this event until there's snow on the ground--if you don't show up, you'll have plenty of time to kick yourself later. Show up to support a great cause and have a good time. You'll be glad you did.
