What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts desire.
Our cup is overflowing with news this week, but first head over here to check out what awesome brews were released in Richmond last weekend.
We've got new beer releases, special events and more so hold on to your mugs because we're getting ready to tap this thing!
Grab your furry pal and head out to Strangeways Brewing for their Barktoberfest on Sunday, Oct. 16. The brewery is raising money for Bandit's Adoption and Rescue of K-9s (BARK) and there will be beer, food, contests, dog-centric vendors and live music. Tickets are $5 in advance.
On Saturday, Goochland brewery Lickinghole Creek will release something so decadent, so mouth-watering, that I'm barely able to keep the drool from getting on my computer as I type. The brewery will release a Bourbon Barrel German Chocolate Cake brew. It's their first ever bourbon barrel aged lager and the beer was brewed with German Specialty Grains and German Hops, aged in Kentucky Bourbon Barrels and cold conditioned on coconut, pecans, coco nibs and vanilla. Get some while supplies last!
Isley has a ton of fun events going on this weekend. The Scott's Addition brewery is throwing a "Cluck & Shuck" party with food from Mean Bird food truck and oysters from Rappahannock River Oysters on Thursday. Enjoy Crab Cakes, Fried Oysters, Fried Chicken, Veggie Bird, and gappy hour drink specials.
On Friday, Isley will release its Up All Night Coffee Porter, a 6.6% brew with Colombia Huila Los Naranjos San Agustin coffee beans from Ironclad Coffee Roasters. The porter has flavors of candied pecan, graham cracker, and black cherry compliment the already present notes of coffee and chocolate.
Finally, on Saturday, Isley will release its collab brew with Blue Bee Cider, Apple Brown Betty.It's a 6% English Brown Ale with fresh pressed Blue Bee Apple Juice!
Speaking of Blue Bee Cider, they will open their new location in Scott's Addition this weekend. Friday through Sunday the cidery will celebrate their grand opening at 1320 Summit Ave. with limited releases, collaborations, local food and live music. They have a bunch of collaborations with local breweries and distilleries in town so make sure you check out the details on the Facebook link above!
Garden Grove has a few fun things going on this weekend as well. This Sunday, the Carytown brewery will be at the annual Shell Raiser's Shindig supporting the VA Oyster Shell Recycling Program at Libbie Mill - Midtown. Top Chefs in Virginia will be providing some delicious food along with oysters from Virginia's oyster regions and Virginia wine, beer and cider. Check out the Facebook link for oyster lineup, menu and beer and wine lineup. Tickets are $75ea or $135 for a pair.
Garden Grove is also hosting a beer dinner featuring chef Lee Gregory of The Roosevelt on Monday. Five courses of seasonal new american cuisine will be matched with five of our brews, Tickets are $38 plus tax & tip. You can reserve a spot through the link above.
