Welcome to my new blog IN THE BLACK & WHITE! My goal is to bring you the sights and sounds of musicians, events, and maybe a few other things. I hope you'll forgive the tardiness of this first post... we are still working out the bugs!

RAPID CITIES

This New Jersey four piece kicked off my MACRoCk experience off with some jazz influenced post-hardcore! The singer jumped between the main microphone and a second that ran into a guitar amp with delay... at times even playing a trumpet.

TITLE TRACKS

John Davis and his new band celebrated their new 7" single with songs that pick up where his former band, Georgie James, left off.
Title Tracks "Every Little Bit Hurts"
THE HOUSE FLOOR

A trio from Blacksburg brings spooky music with lots of reverb and a timpani drum!

NEW ROCK CHURCH OF FIRE

I didn't know what to expected from a band with a name like New Rock Church of Fire... The DC band defiantly brought the rock! ...and a smoke machine.
New Rock Church of Fire "Death Truck"
THE FORDISTS

More post-hardcore, but to me their sound was more reminiscent of Gainesville, FL than DC, where they craft their songs.

EDIE SEDGWICK

I'm a big fan of anything Justin Moyer. I've watched him evolve El Guapo into Supersystem and take Antelope from an obscure side project to a touring machine... but I think he finally found his calling in a transgendered reincarnation of Andy Warhol's factory girl. He simply explodes on stage in not-to-be-missed performances.
Edie Sedgwick "Sissy Spacek"
FIN FANG FOOM

This band wowed me at my first MACRoCk many many years ago... and they still are one of my must see bands. Besides the obvious (RUSH) where else are you going to see a man play keyboards, sing AND play bass at the same time? Look for a new
record on Lovitt Records this fall.
