THE OFFICIAL WRITEUP

We have put together a collection of the best locally grown photo work online and in the issue.

In print, we have interviews with punk/metal photographer Tony Lynch, skateboard documentarian Nick Ghobashi, and nightlife voyeur Nate “Igor” Smith. A Mike Wood spread from his Modern Cowboys set and a round table discussion with photographers Ken Howard, Ian Graham, David Kenedy, + Cameron Lewis on what it takes to be a photographer in RVA. Great commentary on that stuff from some of the most opinionated people I know.

Plus, online interviews and images by award winning photographer Scott Elmquist, our own black and white image maker PJ Sykes, Karen Seifert, Joseph Talsman, Michael Otley, Rebecca Ward, and Sylvia Plachy on RVAMAG.COM.

This installment was good to decent. The graphic design on this photo issue looks incomplete or unfinished. A little blah when compared to the past installments. It's as if the designer was in a rush. I couldn't find who designed it in the credits. Anyone know?

I designed it. I was thinking that the design has been overpowering the content and wanted to present the material cleanly. Let it speak for itself.

Ok. Like I said it was decent. I don't understand "overpowering the content". For me personally it looked exciting and drew me into the content. Could it be you're overthinking with this installment? Good job RVA Magazine but breathe a little, will ya?

Guess all the talented party photographers LIVING in Richmond don't have enough T & A in their photos or something? How the hell do you bypass them for someone who lives in NYC and promises to make careers by taking pictures of girls and trying to fuck them? Yay, he has a popular blog. Who's gives a shit? This makes no sense RVA. Who made that call?

I'm of Igor SMith of course.

make a va music photo book. I want to buy it and sell it in my store. It would be amazing. And we can release the book with a dvd of shows from Richmond for the past 10 years.

IM A GENIUS

Don't hate on Igor. I may not know him as well as others but I do know his work. I know he meets deadlines and has wonderful ideas. I know that he lived in Richmond for years, worked with various magazines and galleries promoting himself and other talented people from Richmond. The circle that he ran with are the same people who are currently giving you shit to do each weekend, places to shop and media to read. I've lived in Richmond for 8 years and the first candid picture ever taken of me anywhere was by him. I love Richmond and I love the photographers and the artist here but I also love it when someone has a goal and accomplishes it. Way to go Igor for doing so well in NY. Way to go IGOR for working with VICE. Way to go for having your logo all over the internet and the streets. If you are a Richmond photographer who feels that you were and are over looked I suggest that you get off your ass instead of waiting for someone to knock on your door and tell you that you are talented. Submit your work. RVA MAG has a small staff. If you want to do something do it. STOP BITCHING. If your business is art make art your business.
