Heks Orkest
09.19.09 Empire - Richmond, VA

Heks Orkest "How Will It All Fit"
Heks Orkest "I've Been Waiting"
Heks Orkest, which means "witch orchestra" in Dutch, is a Richmond "super group" comprised of Dave Grant (Action Patrol, Service Anxiety), Jonathan Fuller (Sleepytime Trio, Engine Down, Deanli, Bats & Mice), Keeley Davis (Sparta, Engine Down, Denali), Cam DiNunzio (Denali, Lazycain), and Ed Trask (Avail, Holy Rollers). Friday night they debuted at the Bike Lot and Saturday was round two at Empire.

Empire is a tiny bar that is not set up for live shows, let alone a five member band with half stacks. The place was packed and smoky.

The band tore through seven new songs as if they had been playing them for years. Even though the music was reminiscent of many of their older bands, the songs did not sound dated.

Just as the band hit its last chord, Dave threw his mic into the air only to be caught by the fan above him. It started to swing around into the crowd like a lasso. Everyone was ducking and laughing at the sight. It was a nice punctuation to a great show.
