Matthew Damian Ritchie's works are inspired by the world around him. His icons often deal with childhood, or at least appear to- I suspect that his work may not be as childhood oriented as it may appear. The works presented here, in an opening tonight at Cafe Gutenberg (where my work was showing last month), are obviously Asian in nature. To me, the techniques and applications seem reminiscent of classic japanese woodblocks, while the subject matter lends itself to more modern yet still artfully dated modes of thought from the pop sphere of Japan.
