BOUNCE 020 Reinhold "I Heart Cakes"

So it finally happened ..... I put up a mix. This is a re-creation of a new years set I mixed in Wilmington....

Tastemakers Reinhold and Jennings bring you BOUNCE, our showcase of the best in local and regional deejays sets.
For all the information you need email john@rvamag.com.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

BOUNCE 020 JReinhold "I Heart Cakes"

John Reinhold was birthed into the local DJ pantheon at art shows in Richmond, Virginia. Through this he became involved with Gallery 5, RVA Magazine, art events, installations, and various parties. He has also contributed to local movies and theater projects (Project Resolution), often finding himself working in sound, doing foley work, and getting involved in editing to helping make soundscapes and effects. Through the First Friday Artwalk and Gallery 5, John became involved with some of the local fire spinning groups and people. In meeting fellow DJ and fire spinner Conway Jennings, he evolved into an integral part of PLF (Party Liberation Front), and the duo work together on local events and creative festivals. Since then, he has DJ’d parties and clubs throughout the east coast, bringing his eclectic mix of tech house, electro, dubstep, and gypsy tunes wherever he goes. His tracks keep firespinners burning and dancers moving, and provide the atmosphere for some of Richmond’s most outside-the-box art events.

BOUNCE 019 Michael Nightime "Michael Nightime is in Your Basement"

We are excited to bring you BOUNCE once again.....

Tastemakers Reinhold and Jennings bring you BOUNCE, our showcase of the best in local and regional deejays sets.
For all the information you need email john@rvamag.com.

------------------------->

BOUNCE 019 Michael Nightime "Michael Nightime is in Your Basement"

Bio -
In lieu of a bio we wrote a bit about Mr. NightTime:

One fine morning at Fall PDF after a night of non stop debauchery, I (jokingly) asked Michael why he was so sleepy, to which he replied "Well they don't call me Michael fucking Daytime do they?" .. no, they sure don't.

Really, if I only had one word to describe this man, that word would be "fun". He's never stops smiling, and always has something absurdly silly (and awesome) to say. And the best part is that it shows in his music. Michael Nighttime's sets are always full of bassy electro house, with the welcome addition of various kinds of international beats, especially gypsy-esque balkan house. It's always super fun, so we're very happy to share this mix with you.
-
Conway Jennings

To see Micheal NightTime jumping around, smile on his face, pumping his fist in the air, laughing and smiling, including people in his enjoyment of his music is what its all about. This set is a taste of some of the stylings of Mr. NightTime, with his unique love for all flavors of music and cultures. Micheal is one of the only Dj's I have had the amazing experience of sharing a tag team set with for over eight hours until the sun comes up - Massive -. So needless to say, I love me some Michael NightTime. ..... Enjoy this unique and wonderful set!!!
BOUNCE 018 DJ MIR "88 MPH"

We are excited to bring you BOUNCE once again... suck it!!

Tastemakers Reinhold and Jennings bring you BOUNCE, our showcase of the best in local and regional deejays sets.
For all the information you need email john@rvamag.com.

------------------------->

BOUNCE 018 DJ MIR "88 MPH"

Dj Mir (aka Nasa)

Mir (Nasa) would describe himself as a music geek who grew up listening to 90's R&B and anything on warp records. He has been cutting his teeth playing basement parties, art shows, and throwing dance parties around town. Recently he has been working with a collective group called Chocolate Milk. They are contently working to bring about new music and push new forms of mixing with elements of hip-hop, drum and bass, dub step, jazz, acid jazz, and trip-hop. I was recently able to see them live taking turns mixing at The Camel, and was impressed with the original productions I was hearing from them. It reminded me of a Nosaj Thing - or something similar with elements of dub and electronica. We are looking forward to hearing more from them in the future, and hopefully getting some original production up as well.
-
JReinhold

"DJ Mir is wild at heart, but the beats are sonic ecstacy inside a child’s favorite nesting place. I am back in the womb across from John Lennon’s temple. Very well crafted imagery on these dope sick beats."

John Morgan

Body Language have been burning holes in NYC dance floors all year long playing w/ Zero 7, Passion Pit, School of Seven Bells, Theophilus London, We Have Band, La Roux & Jimmy Edgar. Producer Shuttle has given their single "Work This City" a dubby flip and it is tasty.

Worker Bee - No Dreams

If you like Nick Cave, Sonic Youth or the Liars, chances are you will like Worker Bee. Spaced out, simple, and moody without being heavy, I found this to be a solid single from a band I didnt know about til yesterday.

--------------->

Worker Bee's debut album, Tangler, is what the band made it to be and whatever the listener wants it to be. This ethos has been instated since the first conception of the band came together in San Jose, California in 2006. They self-released two EPs before mounting creative clarity came to a head and they penned their first full-length album. Their sound continues to evolve from one release to the next, perfecting the marriage of elaborate instrumentation, angularity and beautiful haunting noise.

An exercise in simplicity, limitation was key in the recording of Tangler. Done in the non-studio of the band's house in California and working with only eight tracks each song, the record itself speaks of something larger than the whole. Space left ajar by the music is quickly occupied by the listener's own impartments.

Because of this intended elasticity, the album never makes a home in any strict genre. Songs like "Nesting" and "Cold Rats" are awash in percussive gasps and collapsed guitars. Through its blue dirge, the narrative of "When You Came Through" depicts a man giving in to something that most never could. "Rough Magic" emits a displacing fog where landmarks only appear in the sampled clangor and the steady drums become the only ground. The album's side closers "No Dreams" and "Surface Eating Acid Bath" entail all the ideas of Tangler. No one thing has meaning and reason endowed on it in the same way twice but the attempt is the real goal.

BOUNCE 017 JAMES GYRE "don't don't dance"

BOUNCE 2010

We are excited to bring you the first BOUNCE set of 2010, a personal friend of ours James Gyre brings his skills to the ears of RVA. This is a great way to start off our New Year - Dope Beats!!

Tastemakers Reinhold and Jennings bring you BOUNCE, our showcase of the best in local and regional deejays sets.
For all the information you need email john@rvamag.com.

------------------------->

BOUNCE 017 JAMES GYRE "don't don't dance"

James Gyre is the man. We are super pumped to finally get a mix from him up on our podcast. He is deeply knowledgeable in every kind of music you can think of (seriously!) and it definitely shows in his sets. This mix spans all kinds of electronic music including electro, dubstep, baltimore club, all kinds of weird shit I've never heard before, and more. However, it's not uncommon to hear him throw in all kinds of music from all over the world, such as bhangra, cumbia, jazz, kuduro, etc. But the truly wonderful part is James' ability to describe the history of that style as well as the artist's career in depth.

James has recently hosted me and Reinhold at his "Garden of Earthly Delights" party in Pittsburgh, and lemme tell you, those parties are nuts. As an excellent dj, promoter, artist, and friend, James is a wonderful guy, and he will amaze you if you get the chance to see him live (we're working on that). We hope you enjoy this mix.

- Conway

After digesting his fill of psychedelic drugs, the music of the Carter Family and some heavy riffage from AC/DC, John Bellows released an album in 2005 called Clean Your Clock on a handful of CD-Rs and head full of ambition.
Gills And Wings - Rebirth Of A Nation

Richmond theatrical pop-rock group Gills And Wings bring a lot of energy with a touch of flair reminiscent of the late Freddy Mercury. Don't get me wrong I am not comparing them directly as these guys have a long way to go but you see they are not afraid to reach for that level of performance. Honestly, they dont sound like anything I have heard in the city and are so polished they sound ready for the big time.

Now they are taking the show on the road and are playing Gallery 5 on Feb 5th. Be sure to check them out and for more information you can find it at www.myspace.com/gillsandwings.

Also, make sure to check them out on the July episode of Last Friday from RVA TV.
