Dr. Dog’s new live album, Live At A Flamingo Hotel, hits the streets next week, on the 13th, and they’re celebrating the occasion with a big tour that will bring them to DC’s 9:30 Club for a two-night stand. For Live At A Flamingo Hotel, Dr. Dog decided to get away from the usual live-album industry cliches–no overdubs to hide in-the-moment errors, no jacking up the audience sounds to let everybody know how popular they are. “We wanted to make it feel like an actual record, instead of just a live thing,” bassist Toby Leaman told the Wall Street Journal’s Speakeasy blog. “The experience should be like you’re listening to a record, because you’re not actually at a show.”

But of course, nothing beats the real thing, and you can catch a real live Dr. Dog performance in only a couple of weeks when they arrive at the 9:30 Club on January 23.
