The RVA Photo Issue Is Out!

by | Jun 23, 2009 | COMMUNITY, MUSIC, PHOTOGRAPHY

Alright, get ready for a heavy dose of the real deal: the RVA Photo Issue has landed. After many teary debates and bruised egos, this bad boy is out there, cruising the concrete and setting the standard. Big ups to every talent who gifted us their creative genius to make this possible.

STOP SCROLLING. Now, bash that “CURRENT ISSUE” button lingering at the top of your screen. This is just the beginning of the joyride, folks. Our RVA Music Issue is set to hit the streets on July 18th. And as if that wasn’t enough, we’re launching the RVA Summer BFD Edition on August 20th, spiced up with guest editing wonders Shelley Briggs, Curtis Grimstead, and Ward Thefft.

The meat of the matter? We’ve assembled a sick collection of the finest local photography you’ll see on the net and in print.

In the tangible world, you’ll find revealing conversations with punk/metal lens lord Tony Lynch, skateboard sage Nick Ghobashi, and the ever-intriguing nightlife peeper Nate “Igor” Smith. You’ll also get an eyeful of Mike Wood’s awe-inspiring spread from his Modern Cowboys set, and a deep dive into the photographer’s psyche with Ken Howard, Ian Graham, David Kenedy, + Cameron Lewis – all masters of the craft in RVA. Expect some straight-up, no-bullshit talk.

As for the virtual side, we’ve got even more exclusive chatter and pics from award-winning snapper Scott Elmquist, our very own monochrome magician PJ Sykes, as well as Karen Seifert, Joseph Talsman, Michael Otley, Rebecca Ward, and Sylvia Plachy, all live on RVAMAG.COM.

And where can you bag this gem? Look no further than the coolest joints in town: Sticky Rice, Katra Gala, Kulture, Gus’. Su Casa. Shield’s Market, Joe’s Inn, All Star Market, Ellwood Thompson, Need Supply Co., Play N Trade Carytown, Weezies Kitchen, Exile, Rumors, Cafe Gutenberg, Apprentice Salon, Mezzanine, Plan 9, Main Street Java, Bang On, Caliente, Banditos and, damn right, 50+++ more awesome spots across the city

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
