The Last RVALUTION is 2NITE!

by | Dec 28, 2010 | POLITICS

Not really, its coming back in the summer but this is the last one til then. What a ride. There were a lot of haters out there and more than a few dramatic moments but RVALUTION has changed the game in Richmond. Maybe you are scratching your head on that last statement but before you jump down my throat and declare me an idiot, let me walk you through this.

The Hat Factory has a “stated” capacity of 1500 people. RVALUTION at its peak last summer had a run of 15 consecutive sold out nights on a TUESDAY! That’s over 20,000 people served. It brought nationally recognized club talent to the city and had them raving. It gave steady work to a good number of very creative local dancers, hooper girls, a few magicians, a monkey, and deejays. It created a new spin on the scene. So for all that, we at least tip our hats on a job well done by The Hat Factory, 2BNB, PLF, and the Audio Ammo guys. Its been a great run. Now it’s time to take a break after tonight and get back in the lab for RVALUTION 2.0 next summer.

ed. note – Of course we are biased but not liars.

Thank you to photographers Todd Raviotta, Erik Fox, Danny Tiet, David Kenedy, Nick Ghobashi, Ben Muri, Jon Headlee, Bree Davis and everyone else that took the incredible photos that helped define the night.

Special thanks to Michael Hostetler for being the nights biggest supporter.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
