Introducing i-e* & RVA Creates.

by | Jun 18, 2011 | POLITICS

By now you might have caught wind of the city’s big push to spread the word about Richmond’s creativity. RVA Creates and i-e* have the same overall agenda, but are going about it in different ways. Here’s a brief rundown of what they are doing and how you can get involved.

i-e*
Developed by the Greater Richmond Chamber of Commerce (GRCC) and cheered on by the likes of Tom Silverstri at the Richmond Times Dispatch, the guys at the Martin Agency, and many more, including street artists and small business owners, the i-e* program will kick off with a daylong conference on June 23rd. The conference will focus on dialogue and connection, by letting people tell their stories of innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. The hope is that listening to the over 40 different business owners, artists, musicians, and [ahem…] magazine publishers will encourage others to tell their stories and spread the idea of creativity in Richmond.

You can get involved by reaching out to the GRCC, or through the i-e* website, for information about the next event. Expect them to want to hear your story and/or attend other i-e* events to meet like-minded individuals. The core mission is connecting people and spreading the word.

MORE INFO ON i-e*
Meet i.e. at the launch event on June 23, 2011 to become a founding member of the i.e.* movement to bring Richmond’s creativity to the world stage. In an as-yet-undisclosed warehouse location in downtown Richmond, we will share examples of new thinking in a unique, interactive, full-day experience.

Hear inspiring stories and share interactive sessions with the region’s most fascinating innovators, artists and other creative class thinkers. Build a network of fascinating people across multiple disciplines and learn about things you didn’t know were happening right here in RVA.

RVA Creates
Brought together by the people behind the downtown marketing group Venture Richmond (now Venture RVA?), RVA Creates focuses on funding creative projects around town. They are connecting the big time corporations here in the city with artistic projects like the Broad Street murals headed by Ed Trask, the RVA street banner campaign, and the RVA sticker campaign on all city owned vehicles. I have been privy to a number of their meetings and this is just the tip of the iceberg as far as what they have planned.

To get involved, send them stories, and especially your project ideas, at www.rvacreates.com. If you have a project on kickstarter or a well-thought-out artistic idea, these guys just might be able to make them happen.

R. Anthony Harris

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
