Ian Graham, photographer and jack-of-all-trades for RVA Magazine, and Jon Headlee, Executive Producer for RVA TV went to the last Drunken Spelling Bee at Empire on September 29th, 2009. What ensued was hilarity provided by hosts Blake Midgette and Ron Rogers, gay virgins, debauchery, and a little bit of obscene (and sometimes just plain difficult) spelling thrown in for comical ballast.
Keep an eye out for a special surprise at the end, and find out what sexual act was named after the uptight Rick Santorum, Republican senator from Pennsylvania. We never quite figured out how one can be simultaneously out of the closet and still a virgin, but it’s either one hell of a gay pick-up game, or the closest we’ve found to prove that homosexuality can be a born trait. Either way, it makes for great entertainment, and as always, Blake and Ron are dirty and hilarious.
Tonight is again drunken spelling bee (Empire @ 10pm), so come out, have a good time, expand your vocabulary, and do it RVA-style: Totally Insane Tuesdays! As for the censorship, we try not to censor our words, but in situations of drunken hilarity (and out of gentlemanly respect for the ladies), RVA TV has you covered, literally and physically.
