Hundreds of people gathered at Richmond’s Capitol Square on Wednesday as part of the nationwide 50501 Movement, protesting President Trump’s Project 2025 agenda. Organized by Dia Figueroa, the rally focused on opposing proposed cuts to reproductive rights, stricter immigration policies, and federal workforce reductions under the leadership of Elon Musk, now head of the Department of Government Efficiency.
Protesters carried signs reading “Defund Musk” and “Stop the coup!” while speakers criticized the administration’s policies. Despite concerns from some progressive groups about potential government surveillance, the demonstration happened and remained peaceful.
Additionally, photographer Oak Buchanan provided images from a separate protest outside the White House the night before. That demonstration opposed Trump’s meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. During the protest, Trump announced his intent to take control of the Gaza Strip and relocate Palestinians, sparking immediate outrage.
