Kulture has been a local, um, cultural institution in Shockoe Bottom for nearly one and a half decades now. Starting out at the height of the late 90s rave scene with merchandise devoted to the clothing and music that was popular in that time, the store shifted focus when all the local rave clubs started shutting down in the early 2000s.

Now mainly focused on the glass pipes that were once a sideline for the store, Kulture has grown exponentially since those early days, today boasting three different locations around Virginia. In celebration of their status as one of the best places to find high quality glasswork in the state, they’ll be throwing a huge party for their 14th anniversary on Wednesday, July 10.
It really starts a couple of days earlier with a storewide sale that kicks off on Monday, July 8. Not only will everything in their physical locations be 15% off, customers who use the coupon code 7102013 will get 15% off online purchases as well. The sale continues until Monday, July 22, but the real day to head down to Kulture this month is July 10. The festivities that day begin at 10 AM, when the Shockoe Bottom store opens. Matt and Irene from Asheville, NC’s Blue Lily Studio will be in town for the day, doing live demonstrations of glass blowing and dropping some knowledge for those in attendance to witness their handiwork. Blue Lily creates a wide variety of handblown glass and their workmanship is top-notch, so for all of you glass fanatics, this demonstration is really a must-see.
After Kulture closes up shop for the evening, there’ll be an even bigger event taking place just down the street at The Canal Club. The official Kulture 14th Anniversary Dance Party will kick off at 9 PM, with DJ Solo and DJ Phenom dropping beats until the wee hours of the morning. Admission is free for everyone until 11:30 PM, so get there early and be prepared to dance all night! After all, Kulture’s anniversary only happens once a year!
