Tomorrow night’s Hangar 18 Halloween Fundraiser (party) is going to be a great chance to hang out with the community, see some great art, dance, check out the pyroship, etc… but lets not forget one of the most important elements of every party: THE BEER!

And we won’t be drinking no mass produced adjunct beers at this party, no sir! The good folks at Strangeways Brewing have partnered with us to bring you some finely crafted local brews that will not only whet your whistle, but also excite the taste buds.

“International travel and study abroad in Austria and Germany and many other European countries in the early 1990s showed me what good beer tastes like and began a lifelong passion for extraordinary beer,” says Neil Burton, the founder of Strangeways Brewing. Burton has come a long way since then, and now, with less than six months of brewing under their belt, Strangways has already made impacts in the local brew scene and has created some truly tasty crafts for Richmond.

There’s a good chance you haven’t sampled Strangeways before – and you’ll have you chance at the party tomorrow night, as both full and sample cups will be available.

Here’s a list of the beer we’ll be serving along with a description – have fun when you come out tomorrow night, but be sure to drink responsibly. (All below info via Strange Ways website)

WOODBOOGER BELGIAN-STYLE BROWN ALE
Woodbooger Belgian-Style Brown Ale
It’s no hoax. You’ve spotted the elusive Woodbooger. However, your adventure is only now beginning. Examine its habits and you’ll uncover footprints of caramel, chocolate and roasted malts with subtle traces of dark chocolate and fruit esters. It will show you a sweet side, tempting you to let down your guard. But you must keep your wits about you, because as quickly as it reveals itself, it will vanish.

ALBINO MONKEY WHITE ALE
Albino MONKey White Ale
Within the strangest existence, there is great depth of character. Such is indeed the case for the Albino MONKey. Ordained in the traditional order of Belgian wheat beers, Albino MONKey’s wheat malt backbone is shrouded only by its sublimely complex sweetness. Its motives in its offerings of spicy hops, coriander, orange peel and white pepper spices need not be understood to be appreciated. Simply follow its divine path. Your obedience will be rewarded.

WALLONIAN DAWN HONEY SAISON ALE
Wallonian Dawn Honey Saison Ale
Strap in for a brisk experience—for it is a profoundly refreshing journey on which you have embarked. Propelled by pale malt and honey, Wallonian Dawn extends a cordial invitation to elegant amusement with a touch of the tart. Allow yourself to marvel in an exhibition of subtlety and entertain your will to unhinge the status quo. And should you find yourself carried away in the spectacle, Wallonian Dawn will remind you to keep things light and refreshing.

PHANTASMIC EAST COAST IPA
Phantasmic East Coast IPA
It’s not just your senses beguiling you. When the Phantasmic appears, prepare yourself for an ethereal blend of notable hints of fruit and pine, reaching out to you from beyond the shadows of rich yeast and hops. Conjure the spirits of barley and wheat malts, and strike a balance between this world with theirs. Commence in the séance of flavor and unlock the secrets of the other side.

You can check out more of Strangeways Brews at their brewery in in the Near West-end – 2277A Dabney Road, Richmond, VA 23230 – they have nightly events and tasting, and on Wednesday evenings, they create special brews from existing patches, experimenting with flavors and mixes that are really a once-in-a-lifetime taste.

Review | Get In My Boca! What’s Happening at the Triangle?

Every time I go to the Aldi on Arthur Ashe at Broad St., En Su Boca tries to seduce me with its tequila and tacos perfume. It doesn’t work all the time, but I feel the pull when I’m browsing the nonsense in Aldi’s middle aisle. I once bought sweatpants there. I’m not...
