VW Loveless, “The Funeral”

This video is what you get when a talented artist and a talented videographer come together to make hip hop art. This track comes from Hippies N Goons member and local emcee/poet VW Loveless. The opening a cappella interlude has some disturbing AutoTune effects, but once the song gets going, it’s got a nice trippy feel that is enhanced by a sample from indie-rockers Band Of Horses. The video, which is shot by BC Music First, tells the visual tale of being in a euphoric trance while on controlled substances, but still being aware that you’re the only one who can control your own tendency towards addiction. At least, that’s how I see it. I loved the transitions in this video, and the twist ending in which Loveless realizes that he’s his own biggest problem. Whether my interpretation is correct or not, there’s so much you can take from this video–you be the judge.
