Don’t Ever Say That Name, Except at Home Depot

by | Aug 19, 2018 | WTF?!

Every so often what we see in the movies crosses over into the 3D realm which mere mortals currently reside; free from the shackles that bind the laws of the physical universe to our everyday lives. The cinematic masterpiece “The Last Action Hero” starring Arnold Schwarzenegger proved just how possible this can be. As summer transitions to fall, and the falling of the leaves remind us of our own fragile mortality, the genius minds behind product development at Home Depot have given us hope that we might carry on. What have they done to save us from ourselves: Cured cancer? Not yet. Reversed aging? Soon. Negotiated an end to the civil war in Syria? In process.

No, they have done something far better. They have created a 10-foot tall pre-lit inflatable animated sandworm from Beetlejuice. What? How can this be? RVA Mag shared these sentiments. Sandworms not only terrorize those who step foot outside of their eternal resting place, doomed to haunt those who trespass, but also includes “energy-efficient” LED lightbulbs.

Serious spoilers below.

For those who don’t remember, or, in some cases, were not yet born, Beetlejuice was a genre-defining masterpiece by Tim Burton that starred Alec Baldwin, Geena Davis, a young Winona Ryder and Michael Keaton in a career-defining performances as the “bio-exorcist” Beetlejuice; say his name three times and there will be hell to pay. The plot focuses on Baldwin and Davis’ characters, a recently deceased Connecticut couple who has to contend with a big city family from New York who moves into their beloved house. As the desperation of the dead grows, their willingness to use any means necessary to rid their house of the living including employing Beetlejuice’s wacky array of startling antics leads to an eventual plot climax that sees a sandworm take out Beetlejuice. Eventually, both living and dead reconcile to live harmoniously in a post-corporeal world.

Sand Worm, Beetlejuice

Home Depot’s “10-foot Pre-Lit Inflatable Animated Sand Worm from Beetlejuice Airblown,” retails for $169, features a moving tongue and will be available for order on Aug. 24. Having a five-star review on Amazon (its only review), which simply states, “This thing is amazing. It’s huge. I can’t believe how awesome it is in person. They even have a help hotline if you are having issues,” should cure any lingering doubts about your pending purchase.

Why is this important? It’s not, just an excuse to write about Beetlejuice. Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice, Beetlejuice.
