Richard Perkins Unveils Raw, Gritty Photography at The Camel Tonight

by | Dec 4, 2015 | ART, FASHION, NIGHTLIFE, PHOTOGRAPHY, STREETWEAR & SNEAKERS, TATTOO CULTURE

Richard Perkins, a good friend of ours who we covered a few years back, is holding an long awaited and anticipated “Piano Lessons Can Be Murder” photo art show tonight at the Camel from 7 to 9.

Heavily inspired by Vincent Gallo, and a true Renaissance man himself, Perkins has had his hands in many artistic pots as a musician, tattoo enthusiast, and photographer.

With these professions falling under Perkins’ belt, who wouldn’t want to document?

“This is my first show in general, or solo exhibit ever in Richmond,” Richard Perkins said. “I’ve had other shows in VA Beach (757) and in Philly, but I have a bunch of friends in Richmond so it’s about time, finally.”

In the past, Perkins has worked as a photographer for many shows and concerts in various Richmond venues including the Hippodrome and the grace period of Brain Drain shows back in 2011.

With a paradigm of profession and talent, Perkins’ art show will carry photographs and shots that he has collected that highlights the lifestyle of a modern hedonist.

“The show is geared more towards tattoo culture. I travel a lot and go to a lot of tattoo conventions, and a kid would randomly show up with garbage tattoos, kitchen tattoos, headshots and portraits of tattoo artists. It was all by accident, in a way from my lifestyle.”

Perkins’ shots capture quality moments that epitomize the blooming and breeding sub-cultures that parade our cities. From eccentric tattoos to just as eccentric personalities, these images captured primarily after dark, show that Perkins’ skill and hand as a photographer should become classified as iconic for our area.

Though he is without an Instagram as a photographer, he definitely has a tag with over 700 posts in his name [ #richardperkins , #parachutefullofforks] and a blog that will keep you updated on Perkins’ spontaneity and fiascos as a multimedia/flesh artist/photographer.

Indulge yourself in Perkins’ lifestyle shots by making it out to The Camel tonight for “Piano Lessons Can Be Murder” from 7pm to 9pm a perfect stop for viewing the show, hanging out with Richard Perkins, the Southern Belles, and having a few drinks during and after First Fridays for this month of December.

REVIEW | Ducking Awesome! WitchDuck Is Smart, Sharp, and Ruthless
