FASHION RANT: WHO KILLED THE WAYFARER?

by | Aug 17, 2011 | ART

This is what happens with every major trend in city boy style. About 5 years too late, word gets around to the fraternities and they proceed to run it into the ground. Maybe they have a secret meeting on what trend to kill next, right after the paradoxical discussion on how the borderline-gay activity that occurs in the house juxtaposes with the rampant homophobia of the brotherhood.

You’re right, they do match the Bob Dylan poster in your frat house (although you’ve never actually heard one of his records), and your idol Kanye West wears them on a regular basis. That doesn’t mean you can pull them off. Wayfarers are over 50 years old. The frames were well worn by The Blues Brothers, Michael Jackson, Audrey Hepburn; even Jack Nicholson rocks a pair from time to time.

Those glasses are a fashion classic, but they won’t offset the ridiculous khaki cargo shorts with 17 useless pockets, and the Greek letter shirts that only you and your bros think are cool. Go get your Oakley eye jackets and Floateyes cord out of the dresser like the good old days. And God forbid y’all ever get word of selvage denim.
