Cesca Janece Waterfield grew up in the woods and on the shore along the Rappahannock River, and in a one-stoplight town in King George County. She teaches writing at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee where she’s studying for a PhD. Her work has appeared or is forthcoming from Scalawag, Writers Resist, Deep South, and others. She received the 2017 Editor’s Prize in Fiction from MARY: A Journal of New Writing, judged by Natalie Baszile. “San Francisco” is part of a nonfiction manuscript she’s currently working on titled, Baleful Heirloom.
