Roastmaster Jeff Ross is an asshole and gave the worst interview ever – see him at the National this Saturday

Jeff Ross made me want to crawl inside of my own asshole and die, and for one night only he can make you feel that way too!

Jeff Ross made me want to crawl inside of my own asshole and die, and for one night only he can make you feel that way too!

That’s right Jeff Ross, as seen on the last eleven Comedy Central roasts, is coming to The National on June 20th. He won’t just be performing his stand up set, he will be taking volunteers from the audience who want to be roasted.

“Bring your fat and ugly friends!” said Jeff Ross, who had just provided me with the most intensely awkward interview in my life thus far.

The interview was off to a brilliant start when I asked Ross what made him decide to retire from being a lawyer and go into a career in comedy. “ Oh um, I’m not a Lawyer…so I didn’t.” Said Ross.

Thank you very much, person who put that trivia fact on Jeff Ross’s IMDB page.

He went on to tell me that he gets that question about once a year. I wonder why he doesn’t get that fact removed. Probably because he enjoys making new writers nervous.

So Ross was never a lawyer, He went to film school to be a writer, he took a class, a friend told him he should be a writer and “one thing led to another.”

For a man whose career is built on words you would think he might have more of a colorful description of how he got his start. Whatever, its 2015 you can google it.

Which is what I did, Ross graduated from Boston University’s college of communication and I guess one thing led to another and all of a sudden he was the roast master general.

“I didn’t know what I wanted to be, I just knew I wanted to do something different with my life,” he said.

Certainly getting to roast Flavor Flav, Ross’s favorite roast-ee to date, is different as far as ‘things to do with your life’ goes.

As for who he thinks would be a good future roast subject, Ross thinks that Kanye West fits the bill. “I think Kanye West would be a good target his wife, Kim Kardashian, she seems to have a good sense of humour so maybe she could talk him into it.”

We discussed a Kardashian roast and decided that it would be best presented as a three part special on E!

For many, the idea of having a career like Ross’s would be a dream come true. Meeting celebrities, traveling, making people laugh, all great perks in the life of a successful comedian. So, what are the downsides? “This,” Said Ross about the interview I was currently conducting, before he laughed at his own joke for a solid thirty seconds.

Once he finished marveling at his own wit, I thought I could recover.

“I’m sure this is a pain in the ass. Whats an annoying question that Interviewers ask you a lot?” I said, Thank God I’m working on this journalism degree, so that I knew how to turn a bad interview around.

“Probably ‘How did you make the transition from lawyer to comedian.’” Said Ross, before again laughing loudly at his own joke.

I walked into that one I suppose.

Ross did say that the perks of being a comedian do outweigh the annoyance that is talking to people like me. “The best part is I get to go on the road and meet new people and make money doing what I love. I don’t even know how to explain how much fun that is, just getting laughs for a living.”

I got to tell my mom that Jeff ross was mean to me, I never thought James Franco and I would have that in common.

If you enjoy feeling the same anxiety you felt when you were in your middle school cafeteria and that one asshole from science class came and sat down beside you, then be sure to book your ticket at www.thenationalva.com.
