When we found out May 11-17 was American Craft Beer Week, we joined many of our RVA craft-beer enthusiasts in saying “that doesn’t change much,” but in reality, there’s lots of great craft-beer related events and happenings today through the weekend!

But before we get into the nitty gritty, let’s throw some numbers at you so you can sound smart as you discuss how awesome craft beer really is –

There are 3,400 small and independent craft brewers in the US, with over 120 in Virginia alone.

there are roughly 34.6 million barrels of craft brewer capacity in the US, and production of craft beer is now greater than total craft brewer capacity in 2012.

Less surprising, craft beer drinkers put ‘local’ above all other desires when choosing a beer:

For sales numbers and production, check out these awesome graphs:

As if those visual aids weren’t enough, here’s a video showcasing craft brewers from around the US in what is essentially beer-pour porn.

Alright, you learned enough today? Good, lets get to the good stuff! Here’s some of the ways you can celebrate American Craft Beer Week here in RVA:
