What’s happening craft beer lovers of RVA?! Welcome to this week’s “Tapped,” RVA Magazine’s go to weekly craft beer column where you can find all your craft beer-related events, releases, festivals and all the booze news your little hearts’ desire.
If you missed last week’s beer news, you can check those out here. We are kicking off Virginia Craft Beer Month and our cup is overflowing with news this week from releases, to events, and other cool happenings around town, so hold on to your mugs because we’re getting ready to tap this thing!
Today, Hardywood kicks off another Vegan pop up market with all vegan food trucks starting at 4 pm. Dank Eats, Gelati Celesti Ice Cream, Hungry Turtle Food Truck and Sammich will all be serving up delicious grub.
Isley Brewing released “Forget Me Not”, a 4.8% Kettle-soured Pale Ale on Tuesday and you can grab it in house or to-go in growlers and crowlers until Friday.
Recently released brew Paranoid ALEdroid Citra Pale is now on draft at Triple Crossing’s Fulton location. Limited amounts, draft only. Cans still available at both breweries for normal Paranoid.
This weekend, Lickinghole Creek will host its Sunflower Festival Friday through Sunday. Pick your own sunflowers at their 290 acre farm brewery in Goochland. Eternal President Tequila Barrel-Aged Russian Imperial Stout Release will be available along with live music and food trucks. Growlers, bottles and a variety of beers on tap.
On Saturday, Ardent Craft Ales will release its 6.5% dry-hopped Hefeweizen. The Dry-Hopped Hefeweizen will be available in 16oz pints and in four-packs of 12oz bottles. ZZQ starts serving their Texas-style barbeque at noon until they sell out. Intergalactic Tacos joins at 4pm with tacos, quesadillas, and more.
Its First Fridays movie nights at The Veil Brewing Co this month. Screenings will be shown on our new custom movie screen from 8:45p-10:45pm. This Friday, it’s The Big Lebowski, and no they won’t be serving White Russians, but they will have Popcorn served by River City Kettle Corn and their tasty brews.
On Thursday, Three Notch’d Brewing Company RVA Collab House is back with its weekly collaboration. This week, its “Frisbeer”, a Raspberry Gose created in partnership with Richmond Ultimate. RU is celebrating 20 years and has developed into an organization with seasonal leagues, development leagues and sponsors a host of events. Savage Apparel also created the logo design for the beer and will be selling a limited run of T-shirts on the night of the release. Come grab your collectors item before they are all gone. Collab taps at 5pm, Brewer’s Toast after 6pm and we’ve got pint specials on the 1st keg until it kicks or until 9pm.
The brewery will also host the final night of Don’t Look Back Fest on Saturday, Aug. 5, a fundraiser for the Carytown taco joint and bar that recently closed due to a fire. Tess Fisher, Gardener, and Clair Morgan will be performing. Doors 6 pm. Donations welcome. Get details for the entire festival here.
Saturday, Garden Grove Brewing Company is kicking off Virginia Craft Beer Month with Vinyl Conflict Record Store! They’ll be tapping their 2017 Virginia Craft Brewer’s Guild Award Winning Belgian Dubbel, MINOR THREAT while the Vinyl Conflict crew take over the sound system for the night playing an all vinyl set! 8-11pm.
Center of the Universe has quite a few events going on this weekend. On Thursday, Its IPA Day at the Ashland brewery with a surprise session New England IPA release. Brewed at Origin Beer Lab, This 5 % session New England IPA is packed with intense tropical fruit and citrus flavors. Draft and growler fills only.
On Saturday, COTU is dedicating an entire day to the gose with their Gose Festival. It’s the brewery’s first full production sour, “There Gose Summer’ brewed with sea salt and coriander. To celebrate The Gose Summer’s release, COTU made 7 variants! Come to the brewery from 12-10 pm to try a flight of all 8 variations of this wonderfully tart homage to summer. The Cultured Swine will be on site to feed you.
Also on Saturday, from 4 to 8 pm COTU will celebrate VA Craft Beer Month and the great Town of Ashland as we crawl to 4 delicious eateries (and 1 brewery) on the inaugural Tour de Ashland! Each stop will have a COTU or Origin beer paired with a small plate. Once you make your rounds to each location with your official “passport” you can head back to Origin to claim your limited edition Tour de Ashland glass!*. Passports are only available at Origin Beer Lab. Legend Brewing is giving us all a little special treat ahead of schedule with their pre-release of their Oktoberfest brew on Thursday to celebrate VA Craft beer Month.
Join Blue Bee Cider Saturday for Dog Days of Summer, an event for our furry companions. On Friday, Buskey Cider will host 804 Day to celebrate good ol’ RVA. Details: Cider & Other Beverages: Randall’d Ciders will be a collaboration with Ellwood Thompson’s, Texas Beach Bloody Mary Mix mixed with Buskey Cider = Buskey Mary, Trussings Craft Fizz & Confluence Coffee Co. will be available! Boulevard Burger and Brew Sliders (beef and vegan), Fat Dragon Chinese Kitchen and Bar Firecracker Shrimp. Nonprofit: HandsOn Greater Richmond will receive 10% of our cider proceeds. Steam Bell Beer Works will release its Scarlet Refined Wheat Ale on Saturday. S medium bodied Wheat Ale, the ale was fermented over raspberries giving a lightly sweet raspberry flavor and aroma with a clean finish.This beer was concepted, brewed, and named by Steam Bell Brewer Tyler Ossowski in conjunction with 2017 Virginia Craft Beer Month. Supplies are limited!
Powhatan brewery Fine Creek Brewing Company, which recently opened up, is hosting a FeedMore benefit tomorrow night. The brewery will be donating a portion of the event’s proceeds to the hunger relief organization.
