The Coalition Theater proudly presents the 8th Annual 2ND BEST FEST—a three-day comedy extravaganza showcasing the best in improv, sketch, and stand-up. Running June 5–7, this year’s festival brings high-caliber acts from LA, Chicago, NYC, Baltimore, Raleigh, DC, and RVA to four incredible venues in Richmond’s Downtown Arts District.
This Saturday show brings a perfect blend of hilarity and seasoned skill. DC’s Kinfolk opens the night, followed by stand-up from Sara Schaefer. Closing out the show is Angel Bones, a Chicago-based improv supergroup featuring veteran performers from iO, The Second City, and UCB.

Kinfolk
Your skinfolk ain’t always your kinfolk, but this time we got lucky. Kinfolk rests at the nexus of when “you people” become “your people.” We ask the audience to share about the folks they belong to, then bring them to life on stage for your enjoyment.

Sara Schaefer is a critically acclaimed stand up comedian, writer, and artist. Her Comedy Central Stand Up Presents special debuted in 2019 and she was the co-host of MTV’s late night show Nikki & Sara Live. Sara published her first book, Grand, in 2020. She has written for numerous television programs and won two Emmy awards for her work at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.
Angel Bones is an improv super group that combines the very best of Chicago improv – veteran performers who have perfected the art of present, patient, and honest improv with mixed with absurd whimsy. Angel Bones is made up of performers from iO, The Second City, and UCB.

Located in Richmond’s Downtown Arts District, the nonprofit Coalition Theater is dedicated to creating an inclusive space where laughter connects people. Through performances, classes, workshops, and community partnerships, we help individuals discover their comedic voice and provide a welcoming platform to share it.
