This Sunday, VA Pride and Hardywood will join together for their fourth annual celebration of Love On Tap. This signature Pride Month event began to celebrate the passage of marriage equality in Virginia and throughout the country, and continues as an anniversary celebration for several milestones in the LGBTQ civil rights struggle, from the Stonewall riots to the Obergefell v. Hodges Supreme Court decision that made marriage equality the law of the land.
“We’re grateful to Hardywood for hosting us,” said James Millner, President of VA Pride. “This event is a great way for us to engage with our community, and to launch this year’s Pride beer.”
Indeed, this year will see Hardywood bring back Tropic Like It’s Hot, a sour ale brewed with passion fruit, pineapple, and dragon fruit, originally released in collaboration with VA Pride as part of 2017’s Love On Tap celebration.
The return of Tropic Like It’s Hot kicks things up a notch, as this year will see it not only available on tap in local bars and restaurants, but also available in can form in local grocery stores for the first time. And there’s something special about those cans. “This year, the beer can has a Lyft code printed on it, which is good for a discounted ride,” said Millner. “As far as we know, that’s the first time anybody’s ever done that.”
Whether or not you need to take advantage of that code on your way home from Hardywood this Sunday, one thing’s for sure — all attendees will enjoy a wonderful afternoon with VA Pride. The event will feature plenty of vendors, including Maven Made, Dayum This Is My Jam, Black Sheep Wedding Collective, Chop Chop RVA, and many more. And there will be several food trucks in attendance as well, with delicacies available from King Of Pops, Haulin Balls, Go Go Vegan Go, and La Bête.
Music will be provided by the Trunk Show Band, who’ll perform all your 80s favorites as well as newer jams by Scissor Sisters and The Killers, among others. And between bands, you’ll experience a killer drag show featuring Miss Virginia Pride 2019 Nairobi Chanel Ova Snow, along with Michelle Livigne, Zoe Vuitton, Millennium C. Snow, and London Lestrange.
“This is a great event to come out and celebrate all the things June means for Pride Month,” Millner said. What’s more, Hardywood will donate a portion of the day’s sales to VA Pride, so you’re not only having a great time, you’re also helping support the organization that brings us the annual VA PrideFest and many other events throughout the year. What could be better than that?
Love On Tap will take place from 1 to 6 PM at Hardywood’s original location, 2408 Ownby Lane. For more info, click here.
