Check Out A Blazing New Stoner-Rock Jam From Pontiak; New Album Drops Next Month

by | Dec 2, 2013 | MUSIC

Pontiak are a trio of brothers hailing from the Virginia countryside. Van, Jennings, and Lain Carney have been cranking out psychedelic rock n’ roll from their homestead in the Blue Ridge Mountains for nearly a decade now, and doing so at quite a prolific rate–their upcoming album, Innocence, due out on Thrill Jockey Records in January 2014, is their tenth release since 2005.

Over the weekend, we were given a taste of the title track from this upcoming album, and it blew us away. “Innocence” features thick, overdriven guitar riffs, reverbed-out vocals, and a backbeat that just won’t quit. Mono/stereo effects that recur throughout the song make for a headphone classic, and the song’s sheer groove power make it the perfect jam to blast at top volume through your car stereo. Check it out:

Innocence will be released on Thrill Jockey Records on January 28, 2014. You can pre-order the album by clicking HERE. The first 500 LPs will be pressed on white vinyl, and a limited amount of preorders for LP or CD will receive a free bonus copy of Heat Leisure, Pontiak’s 44-minute improvised soundtrack to their short film of the same name, recorded in summer 2012 in collaboration with Guardian Alien’s Greg Fox. Speaking of Guardian Alien, Pontiak will be performing along with Guardian Alien tonight at Gallery 5! Local openers include Caves Caverns and Brown Piss, and visual projections will be provided by Lord Candy Dish. Tickets are $6 in advance, $8 at the door. Advance tickets are available HERE until 5 PM, after which you’ll have to pay the higher door price, so hurry up and order!
