I’ve been meaning to show you guys this for a while, but considering that the new Black Moth Super Rainbow album will be out in a few weeks, now seems like the perfect time. “Windshield Smasher” is the first single from Cobra Juicy, the fifth album by the Pittsburgh electronic/experimental indie troupe. Their mysterious members, who keep their real names and faces a secret and aren’t even all that clear about how many of them there are, headed to kickstarter to generate the funds for their latest LP, and received heavy duty support from the indie community, even getting Eric Wareheim of Tim And Eric Awesome Show to contribute a video soliciting support. Pledges ended up tripling the band’s original goal, allowing for a full-scale release of Cobra Juicy in multiple formats. One of those formats is in the form of a strange glow-in-the-dark latex mask, featuring the face you see on the cover of the album. One of the teeth on the mask is actually a USB stick preloaded with Cobra Juicy, so you can plug the tooth into your computer, load the songs onto your Ipod, and then walk around with your earbuds in and the mask on, listening to Black Moth Super Rainbow and freaking out passerby.
Which brings us to the video for “Windshield Smasher.” In the clip, various masked members of the BMSRmy beseige a quite indie-looking but otherwise very bourgeois couple who appear to have gotten lost in the wrong part of town. Before long, people are being forcefed cake, haircuts are being given, and surprising armaments make an appearance. What will happen to our not-all-that-sympathetic protagonists? Well, you’ll just have to watch the clip and find out. “Windshield Smasher” itself is a great slice of electro-psychedelic pop, so you will certainly enjoy what you hear while you’re watching this video, even if the imagery gets a little bizarre at times.
