DAILY FIX: Eternal Summers, “Millions”

by | Jun 11, 2012 | MUSIC

Here’s a new video from Roanoke indie-rockers Eternal Summers, who’ve been getting some local buzz in recent months after well-received performances both in Richmond and at Macrock. Clearly they’re getting their name out there in the wider indie world as well, because their new video, “Millions,” premiered on Pitchfork TV. Based on how good both song and video are, though, that’s totally understandable, and it’s just good to see that bigger publications are recognizing homegrown VA talent.

“Millions” is the first single from Eternal Summers’ new LP, Correct Behavior, which comes out July 24 on Kanine Records (you can preorder it HERE). The song has the sort of melodic single-note guitar leads that were common in the early 90s post-shoegaze indie-rock scene, which help to firmly embed this song in your head. Plus Eternal Summers vocalist Nicole Yun has an excellent voice, and pulls off some pretty great falsetto on “Millions”‘s chorus. The video is a lot of fun as well, featuring two young women who take a road trip to the desert in order to engage in some serious destruction. After firing off a bunch of shots from 9mm pistols, they break out golf clubs and shovels, demolishing everything from an old-school picture tube television to some lovely vases and glassware. I can’t get behind the part at the end of the video when they smash three perfectly good cakes with a shovel, rendering them sadly inedible, but I’ve always been a fan of needless, wanton destruction, so that plus a really great soundtrack is enough to win this video my vehement approval. Watch it now.
