DAILY FIX: Kraftwerk, “Heavy Metal Kids”

by | Oct 28, 2011 | MUSIC

Here’s a really early Kraftwerk track, from several years before they came to prominence as electronic music pioneers. At this point, one of their two founders/most important members, Ralf Hutter, was taking a break from the band, and the lineup was co-founder Florian Schneider playing flute, Michael Rother playing guitar, and Klaus Dinger on drums. Rother and Dinger were only in Kraftwerk for a short time, but went on to fame of their own a few years later with their group Neu! For reasons that will become obvious if you listen to Neu!, Kraftwerk were a lot heavier while Rother and Dinger were in the band than they were circa “Trans Europe Express” five years later. For proof, just press play above. This song was recorded live on Radio Bremen in 1971. The visual accompaniment is a film of the drive from Beaminster tunnel in Dorset to Mosterton in Somerset in southwest England. Have a great weekend, everyone!
