Here’s a surreal viewing experience for your afternoon enjoyment–a new video from Moon Duo, the San Francisco group which combines the forces of Sanae Yamada and Ripley Johson, the latter of whom also plays in Wooden Shjips. “Sleepwalker” is the first single from the Duo’s third LP, Circles, which will be released next month on Sacred Bones Records. The sound mixes the psychedelic drones of Johnson’s other band with a funkier groove that makes me think of Secret Machines’ Krautrock-derived danceable pulses. It’s the perfect soundtrack for the bizarre video, which is based around an aerobics class led by a mysterious guru (played by legendary garage rocker King Khan). A young couple wanders in after seeing an ad on a street corner, and gets decidedly more than they bargained for. I don’t want to spoil it for you, so let’s leave it at that, but if you’re prepared for something strange, sinister, and quite humorous in a less-than-orthodox fashion, you’ll definitely enjoy this video.
