DAILY FIX: Ty Segall, “Wave Goodbye (Live At Pitchfork Fest 2012)”

I suppose it’s possible that a few of our readers have not yet heard that garage rock wunderkind Ty Segall (who we told you all about back in issue #5) is performing this Saturday at Strange Matter along with psych-punk legends Thee Oh Sees. But both for those who have heard and those who are just learning about it now, it’s undoubtedly a bittersweet topic, as the show has been sold out for weeks, and its facebook event page has been deluged with offers to exchange outrageous amounts of money in return for tickets.

But both for those who have heard and those who are just learning about it now, it’s undoubtedly a bittersweet topic, as the show has been sold out for weeks, and its facebook event page has been deluged with offers to exchange outrageous amounts of money in return for tickets. Well, if you weren’t able to score a ticket to what is apparently the most highly sought-after double bill of the year, fear not–we’ve got your remedy. Here’s a great multi-camera live video shot at this year’s Pitchfork Music Festival, in which Ty Segall and his band crank out a rousing live performance of their song “Wave Goodbye,” which was released earlier this year on The Ty Segall Band’s official debut album, Slaughterhouse (In The Red). Slaughterhouse is but one of the releases the notoriously prolific garage rocker has brought us this year; earlier in 2012, he dropped a collaborative LP with the band White Fence, entitled Hair, on Drag City, as well as a tour-related split single with Feeling Of Love on Permanent Records. And he’s not done yet–October 9 will see the release of his sixth solo album and second for Drag City, Twins, which will become his third full-length release of 2012. The first single from that album, “The Hill,” is already available for you to check out on Soundcloud (you can grab the 7 inch vinyl version of it HERE). This dude just does not stop! And considering the high quality of songwriting acumen he continues to display, even at his current frantic workrate, the constant flow of new material is not only justified but actively improves the lives of his fans the world over. If you’re one of those fans who missed out on a ticket to his Strange Matter appearance this Saturday, you have our sympathies. However, take comfort in the fact that you will still be able to enjoy this excellent live performance of “Wave Goodbye,” and you won’t even have to get dirty, sweaty, or deafened in order to do so.
