This mix is Pari’s first from his new home at Mixcloud, and it’s dedicated to the memory of Curtis Mayfield, who passed away on December 26, 1999. On the 13th anniversary of Mayfield’s death, Pari has created a mix devoted to Curtom Records, which he describes as Mayfield’s “playground for song-writing and production efforts.” Rather than focusing on the hits that have often been played before, this mix features rare tracks from Curtom’s vaults, as well as those of sister labels and subsidiaries such as Mayfield Records, Windy C, Gemigo, Thomas Records, and more. All tracks are played from original vinyl copies, to preserve that unmistakable warm vinyl sound. Enjoy!
On Monday, December 31, DJ Pari and his partner in crime, Mr. Felty, present the final Soulpower event of 2012, the Soulpower New Year’s Eve Super Soul Revue, featuring guest DJ Mike Murphy (WRIR/No Richmond).
Soulpower’s Mr Felty and DJ Pari, two of Virginia’s finest Soul DJ’s, will bring you the best of rare vintage Soul and Funk, all played off original vinyl on 45rpm for your dancing pleasure, including the funkiest version of “Auld Lang Syne” you’ve ever heard in your life (that alone is worth the $3 price of admission!) As usual, our Soul-A-Vision dancing aide (as patented by our friend Colin Powell) will provide visual stimulation, so you can’t help but get down and work a sweat on the floor! In the front room, DJ Mike Murphy will spin a wide mix of New Year’s Eve party bangers, making it two rooms of the best music in town that night!
