I recently ran across an image of the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing Shafer Court in the late 80s and followed the link to VintageRVA. This site is an absolute goldmine of Richmond history. Below are some photos and quotes that I pulled from the past several years of entries on the site. The dates don’t always add up, because some of the entries I pulled them from are a couple of years old, but you should be able to correct the math without too much trouble. If you have some time to devote to it, make sure and check out the VintageRVA blog. It’s amazing, and the music-oriented posts are just the beginning of what you’ll find there.

In 2005, I created RVA Magazine, and I'm still at the helm as its publisher. From day one, it’s been about pushing the “RVA” identity, celebrating the raw creativity and grit of this city. Along the way, we’ve hosted events, published stacks of issues, and, most importantly, connected with a hell of a lot of remarkable people who make this place what it is.
