GHOST OF POP: Kid Is Qual

by | Dec 5, 2011 | MUSIC

On paper, Kid is Qual is a daunting band to explain. Two bassists and a drummer creating frenzied, glorious pop music? Sounds kind of crazy–which I think is really what they aim to accomplish: infiltrating pop music with a new sense of style that can only really display itself in a live environment. When Jonathan Sullivan steps up to a microphone, you know the room is in for something special. The members of Kid Is Qual have been floating around the city for a while, performing in Bio Ritmo, Dead Goats, and several other outfits [Sullivan is also a former member of Jack’s Mannequin-ed]. Kid is Qual is different though. You can really sense a voice and a thought process behind the tunes this band delivers. They’ll be playing tunes from their recent EP, Damn Son, and I can promise you that you’ve never seen anything like Kid is Qual.
