The lineup of the fourth annual GWAR-B-Q has hit the internet, and it’s looking like the best one yet for this outstanding summertime event combining metal, barbecue, hot sun, and tons of blood and guts! Our mighty metal alien overlords of GWAR spare no expense to bring us an amazing show every summer by the manmade shores of lovely Hadad’s Lake, and if you’ve had a great time at editions of past years, this year’s edition will positively make your head explode!

Of course, GWAR themselves will be heading up the proceedings, but they are far from the only amazing band you’ll be able to see at this year’s GWAR-B-Q! First of all, it’ll be a double whammy of Richmond thrash metal action, as GWAR will be joined by ultimate party thrashers Municipal Waste. Returning in triumph from a tour of Australia and New Zealand, we can expect a beer-tastic homecoming set from these local heroes. Then we’ll also get an amazing appearance from North Carolina’s godfather’s of thrashcore, the legendary Corrosion Of Conformity. Coming off a great year that saw the classic trio lineup release a self-titled album and a 5 song EP, Megalodon (both of which were outstanding), the Raleigh boys are currently working on yet another new release, so we can probably expect to hear some new material during their GWAR-B-Q set. And to top it all off, Northern Virginia grindcore masters Pig Destroyer are playing too! Holy crap! Returning to action after five years of silence in 2012 with Book Burner, their fifth album and first with amazing new drummer Adam Jarvis, this blazing quartet is going to unleash an onslaught of sound that might just wipe out Hadad’s completely!

But wait, folks, there’s EVEN MORE! Cannabis Corpse will be in the house. These weed-loving death metallers from the RVA area will be fresh off a tour with Six Feet Under and Decrepit Birth, so you can expect them to be in top form and ready to get the entire GWAR-B-Q smoking something besides baby back ribs. Also on the bill will be Loincloth, a mysterious yet excellent three piece carrying on the RVA tradition of intricate yet powerful instrumental metal. Signed to Southern Lord Records and featuring members of Confessor and Gauchiste, this is a band you need to hear. And then there’ll be a set from the Kung-Fu Dykes, Virginia Beach’s dayglo warriors of martial arts lesbianism! Or something like that.

There’ll be plenty more where this came from, of course. As usual, the GWAR-B-Q will feature two full stages of all-day rock action, with plenty more bands besides the ones mentioned above. We’ve even been told that there’s a yet-to-be-announced group planned for the lineup that will blow everyone’s mind and “put this year’s GWAR-B-Q 2013 completely over the top!” We are of course eagerly anticipating the announcement of whatever group is being referred to there. But one thing’s for sure–we can expect this year’s GWAR-B-Q to be an amazing time, possibly even more fun than last year’s. So get stoked! And pick up a bottle of GWAR-B-Q sauce for the occasion!

The fourth annual GWAR-B-Q, presented by Ring Dog Rescue and the Slave Pit, will take place on Saturday, August 17 at Hadad’s Lake. Doors open at 11 AM and the party goes on all day. Ticket information will be available soon–keep your eye on gwarbq.com for details. We’ll see you there!
