Steve Winwood is a musician’s musician. He’s been hard at work since the 60’s, spanning roles from front man to studio musician and everything in between.

With bands like The Spencer Davis Group, Traffic and Go, the English musician has provided any number of musical offerings. One of his earliest and most recognizable contributions was his work with Eric Clapton and Blind Faith:

And he’s also got a mess of hilarious 80s solo music and music videos – check out 1897 classic “Valerie” below which provided the famed “Call on me” sample for Eric Prydz video decades later:

Winwood dug the Prydz version so much he actually went back and rerecorded the vocal tracks o the 2004 EDM release.

And while we’re reliving classics from days of yore, here’s the always inspirational 80s pop classic “Higher Love:”

But Winwood’s career certainly didn’t slow down as he aged- rather he stepped back and entered that late-in-life phase so many other musicians swing into – jam bands.

He did some work with Warren Haynes and Govt. Mule and hit the festival circuit pretty hard in the late 00s into the 20-teens.

So what you’re left with is a world famous musician with more stories and background than almost anyone you can think of – and he’s coming to the very intimate RVA Carpenter Theatre stage Tuesday, May 2, 2017– we’re excited and I hope you are too.

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. Friday, December 9th and can be purchased at the Dominion Arts Center and Altria Theater box offices, by phone at (800) 514-3849 and online at etix.com.
