Newport News R&B artist Noleac Yahsin has released a new track for her fans. Yahsin, who is no stranger to the Richmond scene, has been producing music for the last two and a half years and managed to attract ears both locally and here in RVA.

The Louisiana native and VCU graduate first drew my attention with her flip remix of Lil Uzi’s song, “Money Longer.” The original song displays a fast life of living and drug use, topping the song off with an “I don’t care” attitude. However, Yahsin’s version traps the listener into the sound with her breezy voice, levitating over the track, discussing past and future events.

The song displays sensational singing from Yahsin as she discusses the fast life she herself is living.

It’s a light, but funk-inspired beat which was produced by 757 producer and DJ Davy Wreck.

Although, “Money Longer” will not be on the songwriter’s upcoming project, she has released several other tracks that will be featured on her yet-to-be-released EP, including “Munchies.”

“Munchies,” which was also produced by Wreck, similarly exemplifies Yahsin’s soulful sound. The song has the modern tropes of experimental R&B thanks to the quality production. The singer/songwriter said she tries to challenge herself by singing in different beat styles which is how Yahsin came to categorize herself as “experimental R&B.”

Yahsin credits the Texas-based rap group Nemesis on this track because she loved the song “Munchies for your Bass” growing up and she and Wreck pulled a sample from it for this release.

With Yahsin still working on her EP, I advise people to listen to her previous songs to get a feel for what you can expect. She’s aiming for a summer release which will be a followup to her first EP, Maktub.

The debut EP was done with fellow VCU student Devyn Simone, who produced most of the beats on the tape and it really showcases Yahsin’s lyricism.

“Finding my voice was the major key in creating the first EP,” said Yahsin.

Yahsin still hasn’t released the title of the EP yet, or many details about the project, but she did reveal the theme of the EP deals with “dreams.”

“Each song has a different feel, but the tape is still going to be cohesive,” she said.
