Thursday, December 19, 9:30 p.m.
Angelo Moore, Rebelmatic, Prop Anon, Kid Is Qual @ Strange Matter – $12/18+

Angelo Moore of Fishbone makes his triumphant return to Richmond as a solo artist. Yes, the guy that jumped of the second tier of the old Flood Zone into the waiting arms of quality music aficionados is back. Fishbone was one of the greatest ska/punk bands of all time if you ask me, and their leader was the most seminal vocalist, saxophonist, and multi-instrumentalist there ever will be, Angelo Moore. Angelo’s new project is more political than usual, as it should be. Through art, music, and the word of truth, Angelo will take on racism, social corrosion, spirituality, family, and the human condition of our planet tonight on Grace Street as only Angelo Moore can do it. He is an original, no doubt. Via his alter-ego, Dr. Madd Vibe, Angelo will perform in a ever so cathartic manner to deliver us to the truth.

Supporting Angelo will be a band I can’t wait to see live, NYC’s Rebelmatic, who stole the show at this year’s Afro Punk Festival in NYC. Also touring with Angelo is Prop Anon, a hardnosed NYC street rapper who tells the story of a globe falling apart through the eyes of the streets. Local support comes in the form of that high powered live bass rock sound of Kid is Qual.

Wednesday, December 18, 9 p.m.
Radio Rubber Room presents Cardinal Compass, Dirty Paws @ Emilio’s 9pm.

Radio Rubber Room is back on a consistent basis with a live music night showcasing the best in Richmond every other Wednesday at Emilio’s. Tonight brings us two great bands flying under the radar in Richmond–especially Cardinal Compass. Cardinal Compass is beautiful Americana rock with an indie-like edge. Not so much is this band typical, yet an fervor leads them to greater heights. Cardinal Compass’ music comes from the gut and their album, Readymade, is a tantalizing listen. No holds barred is the motto of Hannah Marie Standiford, Jake Ziemba, and Matt Wild. Dirty Paws is down and dirty indie pop rock, definitely give this clandestine duo a listen.

Friday, December 20, 9 p.m.
Boneanchor, Jimmy Catlett Group @ Poe’s Pub – $5/21+

Boneanchor is back to deliver the essence from within. This trio has been going for years and years and is Richmond’s best live act in regards to the everyday blue collar rock band. The music is moving and having the most flamboyant, one hundred percent authentic front man, Wrenn Magnum as the singer–oh my! Run, don’t walk to Poe’s tonight. This is that band that if you haven’t seen, well, it’s time. There is never any posturing or nonsense at a Boneanchor show. It is rock and roll at its finest – some 50s, some rockabilly, some garage, some alternative, but always rock to the core. Yes, you will sweat, but that’s the name of the game. Believe it or not, Boneanchor drummer Morgan Huff and I were in a band together in the summer of ’87. Yes we were terrible, but I always knew Morgan would go on to dominate the percussion. Having the great Tom Illmensee on guitar and bass by his side just makes it better. See y’all there.

Saturday, December 21, 6 p.m.
Skalidays 2013 featuring Murphy’s Kids, Eastern Standard Time, Signal Fire, No BS Brass Band, 6TA, Among Criminals @ Kingdom – $10/All Ages

The 14th edition of the annual charity show Happy Skalidays is here, and at a familiar home – Walnut Alley, aka Kingdom. Richmond’s own Murphy’s Kids host this grand annual gathering and headline. Murphy’s Kids are high energy reggae, ska and bouncing rock-steady. NO BS! Brass Band is of course the best brass band in America. Eastern Standard Time out of DC is a marvelous ska/jazz collective combining the musicianship and composition of birdland’s greatest and Caribbean ska. Opening this gorgeous evening of bouncing glee and mayhem will be the roots reggae of DC’s Signal Fire, the Philly punk trio Among Criminals, and the experimental sounds of 6TA.

Proceeds from Skalidays 2013 will go to WRIR, and please bring canned food, a blanket, and a coat for a food/warm clothing drive by Richmond Food Not Bombs and the Central Virginia Food Bank.

Sunday, December 22, 10 p.m.
Live at Ipanema featuring The Milkstains, Diamond Hairbrush @ Ipanema – Free/21+

Now this show is going to be major decadence. You got to love that. The Milkstains are at Ipanema tonight? It’s a Christmas miracle! This spitfire besiegement of heavy thought-provoking garage rock will stampede through your ears inside that cozy vegetarian/vegan restaurant we all know and love. Juan, Gabe, and Raph are better than elves, they are musician’s musicians. Liquor for everybody! And hike up those skirts girls! Having this much fun during Christmas time should be illegal. See you there!

Monday, December 23, 9 p.m.
Silo Effect, Celtic Panda @ The Camel – $5/18+

The real holiday tradition is the week of Christmas, so many great jam rock bands perform live in our own private North Pole. Tonight at the Manger aka the Camel, Silo Effect will keep the Yuletide merriment going at mach 10 with their electro-jam sounds. They combine the best in jam rock with an electronic sound that goes higher than electricity. Dance, you crazy kids, and if there’s mistletoe above, kiss that guy or girl right next to you. Side note, extra free wrapping paper will be given out to any hot girls that kiss each other. And, I mean a good long wet kiss. “John! Come on man!” – Sorry, got to get my head out of Kris Kringle’s gutter. Where was I? Oh yeah, Celtic Panda. There’s nothing better than a bit of psychedelic jam rock on Christmas Eve Eve, and with that, I give you Richmond’s Celtic Panda.

Tuesday, December 24, 9 p.m.
DJ Williams Projekt @ The Camel – Free/18+

Yes, there is live music on Christmas Eve, and it’s better than a stocking stuffer. DJ Williams Projekt is taking the stage at 1621 W. Broad St. and the eggnog will be flowing. When it comes comes to jam, funk, soul, and straight ahead rock and roll power, no band does it like DJ Williams Projekt. Wrap your presents earlier this year, and give yourself time to be at the Camel, where you can dance in celebration of Jesus’ birthday.
