Party All Weekend With Slapdash At Strange Matter!

by | Apr 13, 2012 | MUSIC

I know we’re getting notice to you at the absolute last minute on this one, but if you don’t have any big weekend plans, you’re gonna thank us, because Richmond’s favorite hip-hop party host and impresario, Cain McCoy of Slapdash, is throwing his big 25th birthday bash tonight at Strange Matter, and we’re all invited!

Starting tonight at 9 PM, all kinds of great local hip-hop and electronic talent will be taking the stage: Suburban District, Les La Britanica, Conrizzle, Dr. Millionaire, and more! Plus, there’s free cake and ice cream for everyone who comes out! All of this for only $5? How could you say no?

WHAT: Cain McCoy’s 25th Annual Birfday Bash With His Awesome Music Friends
WHO: Suburban District, Les La Britanica, Conrizzle, Dr. Millionaire, Eli Dynamite, Sky Blew, Rebel-E; hosted by Holly Golightly, music by Mr. Mason Jones.
WHERE: Strange Matter (929 W. Grace St.)
WHEN: Friday April 13 (that’s tonight!), 9 PM
ADMISSION: $5 at the door, and only $3 in advance if you order tickets, which are available HERE, in the next 3 1/2 hours. Hurry!

I’m sure everyone will have a great time at Cain’s birthday party, but don’t party too hard, because only 15 hours after that party lets out, Slapdash is throwing another big event at Strange Matter! This time it’s the release party for Koncepts & Lyricism, the joint mixtape release by local rappers Lyrix and Koncept, who’ve been putting this whole thing together for nearly two years now. This event represents the achievement of a longtime goal for the two local MCs, and they’re both really excited to bring their work to the world, so you can expect their performance to be totally off the chain at this show. They call their collaborative duo MakingYouThink, and this early-evening event is a MakingYouThink and Slapdash joint production. In addition to the headlining performance from MYT, other local hip-hop leading lights will be taking the stage, including Octavion Xcellence & Ryan Flow, HiCollar Scholar, Ryan Easter, and more! In spite of the fact that they’re throwing two back-to-back events in less than a 24-hour span, Slapdash have managed to put together two different killer bills with no repeat acts, so if you come out to both shows (which, uh, seems like a pretty good idea to us), you’ll see two completely different lineups of awesome local hip-hop artists! So there you go–that’s your plans for the weekend, all sorted out!

WHAT: MakingYouThink x Slapdash Presents: “Koncepts & Lyricism” Release Show/Party At Strange Matter!
WHO: MYT (Lyrix & Koncept), Octavion Xcellence & Ryan Flow, Ryan Easter, Mike Hews, HiCollar Scholar; music by DJ Kid Icarus.
WHERE: Strange Matter (929 W. Grace St.)
WHEN: Saturday, April 14, 5 PM – 9 PM (early show)
ADMISSION: $5 in advance (tickets available HERE), $7 at the door
