Ladies and gentlemen, the Pixies have returned! They’ve been reunited since 2003, but only after a decade back together have they finally released a new record–a four-song 10 inch EP known simply as EP1, which came out on September 3. Ladies and gentlemen, the Pixies have returned! They’ve been reunited since 2003, but only after a decade back together have they finally released a new record–a four-song 10 inch EP known simply as EP1, which came out on September 3. Now they’re heading out on tour for the first time in two years, and you could see them for free! They’ll be in the DC area, at Bethesda’s Music Center at Strathmore, on Sunday, January 26, and while tickets don’t go on sale until Friday at 10 AM, we’ve got an opportunity for you to win a pair before you can buy them! That sounds rad, right?

EP1 sounds pretty rad too; while the limited edition vinyl 10 inch version is already sold out, the Pixies are still selling mp3 versions on their website for as little as $4 (without the t-shirt–or $24, with a t-shirt included). They’ve already released videos for two of the songs on the EP: “Indie Cindy” and “Andro Queen”–as well as one for “Bagboy,” a non-EP track available from pixiesmusic.com as a free download. You may have heard that original bassist Kim Deal left the band earlier this year, and while that is a shame, it also is probably the reason all this new Pixies music is suddenly appearing; singer/guitarist Black Francis (aka Frank Black, aka Charles Thompson) told the NME several years ago that Deal was against the band making a new album. The Pixies have recovered from the loss by enlisting former Muffs/Pandoras singer/guitarist Kim Shattuck to replace Deal, and the change hasn’t hurt the band one iota, as they proved with their capable performance of “Bagboy” on Jimmy Fallon’s show last month:

So clearly you need to go see them, right? No worries, your friends at RVA Mag have the hookup. We’ve got a pair of tickets to their show at Bethesda’s Music Center at Strathmore to give away, and you can win by entering your info into the widget below. Keep an eye out for extra chances to win, and make sure you enter by 5 PM Thursday, because that’s when we’ll be ending the contest and selecting a winner.

Keep an eye on our twitter feed or our facebook page–we’ll be announcing the winner in both places Thursday evening! And if you don’t end up winning, not to worry–tickets will go on sale Friday morning at 10 AM, so set the alarm! Admission is $65 in advance, and while the ticket link is not yet available, you can monitor the situation HERE. This is gonna be a great show–don’t miss it!
